Programmes  A Teacher Training Course in the UK for Teachers from Shanghai High School – July 2024. From July 7 to 27, 2024, 25 teachers from Shanghai High School flew to the UK for a 21-day short training couse. The teachers visited University of Oxford , LSE, the University of Manchester and other high-profile universities in the UK to learn more about the potential applications of AI in education and teaching. The teachers also visited Dulwich School, Withington Girls' School, Bury Grammar School and other secondary schools, and undertook deep immersion-style learning to understand British secondary school curriculum design, the British education system, teaching organization and management.
Throughout the three-week training programme, the teachers experienced an in-depth international educational exchange, enhanced their international vision, and reflected on our own education system from a global perspective, forming educational competitiveness with Chinese characteristics.

In July 2023, a delegation of 26 teachers from Shanghai High School visited Greater Manchester and London for 21 days. This visit was arranged by Manchester Education International Ltd in collaboration with the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, LSE, the University of Manchester, and Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as schools and private enterprises with strong educational links.
Through visits to institutions, laboratories and museums, the delegates experienced a wide range of programmes, learning about the British education system, British pedagogical theory and practice in schools, and how industries and employers in the UK participate in educational programmes.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————— In Aug 2023, the Students from Health School Attached to Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences Attended a Summer School Programme in the UK. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————— CPD Training in UK for Principals and Teachers from Shanghai October -- December 2019. In October 2019, a cohort of 17 principals, teachers and educators from primary and secondary schools in Shanghai and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission visited London and Manchester to take part in a 56-day training programme. The programme was rich and varied, including seminars, lectures, observation, field trips and project research. The delegates attended lectures and seminars presented by professors and experts at the University of Manchester, followed by studies at the University of Bolton and visits to local primary and secondary schools and other educational institutions. During the eight-week study the group visited 12 schools and 5 colleges and universities, attended more than 30 lectures, kept daily journals, and wrote reports, articles on their experiences, and special research theses. The aim of the programme was to deepen the teachers’understandings and provide hands-on experience of the British education system. They sought to appreciate the similarities and differences of the education systems used in Shanghai and the UK, hoping to use that knowledge to widen the vision and scope of the Shanghai education system, potentially leading to development, improved teaching methods and optimisedschool management. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————— Departing Shanghai for Manchester, the enthusiastic group of students waved goodbye to their parents and began their adventure! At the University of Bolton, they experienced British-style interactive classrooms, observed lectures in various subjects and visited laboratories and libraries. They quickly realised how different the classroom experience in the UK was from China. Classrooms had a buzz, with much more interaction between teachers and students. The students also had plenty of opportunities to practice and improve their English! Activities were not restricted to the classroom and the students very much enjoyed exploring the campus and finding facilities to accommodate and expand their talents. They discovered that, as well as studying, good health and fitness was essential. They tried out the gym, basketball courts, swimming pool and even indoor climbing walls. The students even found British food much more interesting than they anticipated! Lunches on campus were both nutritious and delicious. Over the weekend, visits to Oxford, Cambridge and London were made, allowing the students to explore and experience many facets of British culture. Yechen was honoured to introduce the Shanghai Construction & Engineering School to the University of Bolton and facilitate further association between the schools and was delighted when, on 30th November 2017, the two institutions signed an educational exchange and collaboration agreement.
At the signing ceremony, Yang Xiufang, Principal of Shanghai Construction & Engineering School, provided a comprehensive introduction to the school’s history and development, courses, teaching methods and scientific research, as well as its close links and cooperation with the industry. Martyn Shaw, Director of Development at University of Bolton, shared details of teacher training in vocational education in UK, course development, current collaborations with other vocational schools in China and the dual certification of courses across the institutions. He expressed his great enthusiasm, looking forward to further development of the collaboration between the schools, given their proven track record, as well as the opportunity provided by the University of Bolton to run CPD courses to raise the standard of teachers and managers’ abilities and professional knowledge in vocational colleges throughout Shanghai. Shanghai Vocational College Senior Management Training Delegation In October 2017, 20 senior management staff at Shanghai Vocational College visited the University of Bolton for CPD training to develop a comprehensive understanding of British vocational education and improve the professional knowledge and management of vocational education in Shanghai. The students from Shanghai College of Environmental Science Attended the International Summer Programme in the UK. In July 2017, we organized a study tour on behalf of the Shanghai College of Environmental Science for its teachers and particularly outstanding students to visit the University of Bolton in the UK. The participants studied the education models of both China and the UK. They shared their experiences of vocational education development and participated in a cultural exchange through interactions between the teachers and students. The teachers discussed the development of international pilot classes with the University of Bolton and engaged in dialogue about the introduction of international vocational qualification standards and certificates, as well as the possibility of future visits. |
